Farai Mhlanga

Farai Mhlanga is a Process Engineer at WETSPEC. He graduated with a BEng (Hons) and MScEng degree in Chemical Engineering in 2006 and 2009 respectively. He has carried out research in the field of water and wastewater treatment. His recent study proposes a valuable and innovative approach to characterisation of influent wastewater for the purpose of developing simulation models of wastewater treatment plants. He brings in 7 years’ experience as a process engineer specializing in advanced process modelling of wastewater treatment plants that handle problematic industrial effluents. He is an advanced user of several modelling platforms, including WEST, GPROMS and MATLAB. He has a sound knowledge of statistics, Monte Carlo methods and their application in process modelling and research. He has provided scientific and engineering expertise to support the process of setting up environmental regulations in the management of industrial and domestic wastewater by municipal authorities. He has published 4 papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has actively contributed to contract research projects and delivered to clients who include the Water Research Commission, eThekwini Municipality, Yorkshire Water (U.K), Umgeni water and others
